What You China Do?
When countries point fingers, that’s when tensions rise; the world’s top two economies are having a dispute over the United States’ limiting of Chinese information technology products. The U.S. had accused China of being involved in a multitude of attacks on American companies and government agencies, but China claims that these accusations lack proof and they themselves have been the victims of attacks, over half of which originated from the U.S.
This limitation on the import of Chinese information technology products was included in a funding bill signed into law on Thursday, and it requires agencies such as NASA and the Justice/Commerce departments to obtain approval from federal officials before importing information technology products from China. Understandably, China’s Ministry of Commerce released statements such as the U.S. limitation sends a “sends a very wrong signal” and “This severely damages mutual trust between the U.S. and China.” Its possible that the U.S. could be in trouble for violating World Trade Organization rules, but since Beijing hasn’t signed a WTO agreement setting international rules regarding government involvement, it would most likely be overlooked.
